FUNCTION > EVERYTHING

When starting this first phase of the Camaro; the main idea was to make it a driver so that I could hop in, pick the destination, choose a song, and drive there. The only cosmetic item that had to be incorporated during this stage was the RS conversion because we wanted to route the wiring accordingly. Trent Musser; the man behind this phase of the project thoroughly planned out what he wanted me to deliver as far as parts were concerned. What we chose to do was the following:

-American Autowire harness kit
-Electric fan from a 95’ Taurus (2-speed)
-HEI distributor
-New alternator + starter
-Valve covers + gaskets
-Drain the fuel tank + get new gas cap
-Convert existing lights to LED
-Holley carb tuning
-Heater line elimination

Trent has been making and modding harnesses for several years, but that isn’t the extent of his expertise. He is well trained in a variety of skills pertaining to the auto industry and that is why he’s the one doing this work. I know it’ll be done right the first time.

Wires…we all hate em, and that’s why Trent takes pride in hiding the wires and asking you to find them. The A.A. harness kit was wrapped in F6 Tech Flex braided wrapping to give it that professional install appearance + durability.

Not that it was priority or anything, but Trent really wanted to get me a horn since my car didn’t have one. He hid 2015’ Mustang horns behind the headlight motors (I still can’t find them, but I’ll take his word for it haha). I purchased the horn assembly from Camaro Central, and now we have a complete deluxe steering wheel!

The existing clutch fan wasn’t doing a damn thing without a shroud, so we chose the route of a 95’ Taurus fan that has a built in shroud and was VERY close to the size of the current radiator. This fan setup will give me the confidence that the car will stay cool during that joyful Bay Area traffic.

If you’ve bought a car second-hand then you know how annoying it is fixing someone else mistakes. This car had some off-brand distributor and coil that was falling apart internally and was probably the cause of most of my running issues. Trent passed along this issue to our friend Daniel ‘Gadget’ Bordeau who recommended the use of a newer HEI style distributor. The only thing hindering this decision was if it was going to fit without hitting the firewall. Gadget brought over a used one to test fit; which worked out perfectly with little room to spare.

Relocating the battery to the trunk would be an easy task for Trent; especially with a new Optima battery + flush base mounted tie-down. With the new Optima now powering everything electrical in the car; we had to make sure it stayed charged, this is where the new alternator comes into play. It’s not fancy by any means…just a new alternator haha.

Trent’s customer before me had a Holley EFI Sniper installed on his vintage Bronco, but before the Sniper was a Holley carb…the same carb on my Camaro. Trent vouched for the Holley’s performance so I contacted the owner who is my friend Filip, and he said we would trade carbs in hopes it would work out better for me. Thanks again Filip!

The engine is now running and is ready to be driven!
