NEW BALANCE 991BHR 'HORWEEN'

Rain and snow are probably the two most destructive weather elements when it comes to the treasures on our feet. It’s time to store those suedes, and never mind the nubuck; this is leather season folks!

Many times the general releases of NB slip under the radar; I’m guilty of sleeping on several pairs that were bangers! One pair in particular I slept on, and had to track down at a later date were these 991BHR’s otherwise known as ‘horween 991’s’ in acknowledgment to the use of horween leather throughout the upper.

I’ve literally only seen 1 pair in my size (11), and they are the ones you see here. I ended up grabbing them for $90 because they’re classified as factory seconds. After looking over the shoes, the only conclusion I can come to on why these are seconds is the ‘USA’ printed on the heel. The font is ever so slightly different on each shoe.

If I can speak for everyone for a second…I think the largest turn-off for any horween leather NB is the price tag. When these hit NB’s website you can expect to see a price tag soaring well over $250. Are they a great shoe? YES. in every way, but are they worth that hefty tag? Not my any means.

998, 997, 990v1, 990v2, and 991 are the models I can recall that were engulfed in horween leather throughout the uppers. Fear not though, there is a 990v4 set to release here in the US before the end of 2018. Until then…
