NEW BALANCE MTRP1LM 'TEST RUN'

The MTRP1LM; otherwise known as the ‘Test Run’. This model was short-lived, but left a lasting, bold impression with me. Only offered in 2 colorways; this was my favorite of the two, and when I saw it in person for the first time at the Twitch x NB SF event, I knew it had to join the collection.

With knit shoes ruling the runner industry with Nike’s Flyknit and Adidas Yeezy; I guess it was a smart move by NB to put out some competition. This is my first ever knit shoe, and I must admit…It is VERY comfortable, and I wish they made more colorways. In the beginning, the midsole wasn’t too attractive to me; but after putting it on the attraction grew fondly.

What would be considered the tongue is just excess material that folds over itself. Initially I didn’t think this would feel right on the top of my foot, but you can’t even tell the fold is there. This is also the first shoe I chose to keep the factory rope laces in. I don’t normally care for them, but on this shoe it just works.

CHUNKY!!!! This midsole is thick, bold, and screams…waves? Looking at the side profile of the ‘Test Run’ reminds me of a horizon over the ocean, as the molding replicates waves in my opinion. I suppose you could call this shoe, ‘wavy’.

It was great I got my hands on the limited production ‘Test Run’, but I’d honestly like to see this back in the running with more colorways offered. Black, grey, burgundy, and navy are just a few colors I wouldn’t mind seeing on this silhouette. What about you?
