'CHINA WALL' TRUCKEE, CA
One of my fondest memories as a young boy was spending Thanksgiving in North Lake Tahoe with my grandparents, mother, uncle, and cousin. My grandparents owned a timeshare in a small town called Incline Village. Since their passing; my girlfriend and I have continued the tradition, and have branched out to explore a little more than my childhood memories. On our trip in 2018, Jaime found this neat location called ‘China Wall’ located in Truckee, CA that was only about 45min from where we were staying in Incline Village.
It took a couple times on the 2-lane highway to figure out where to pull off and start hiking. The hike itself is not grueling by any means; It was actually really peaceful and beautiful. Feeling the crisp Tahoe air on your face is quite refreshing.
After hiking down the hill to the railroad, you finally see what you came here to see! Graffiti! Jaime and I aren't at all art buffs, but we can appreciate artwork when we see it and we also enjoy looking for it.
From the railroad itself to the ceiling above; these tunnels were full of artwork from numerous artists!
Though the tunnels are very long, there are openings along the way for you to appreciate the scenery and take in the sights.
Even if you could care less about the graffiti; I’d still encourage anyone in the area to visit China Wall. It’s a beautiful hike that overlooks such amazing terrain. I have to give a special thanks to my babe; Jaime for finding this location! I look forward to many more.
