NEW BALANCE x CONCEPTS 998CFX: GRAND TOURER

I’m calling it now, “This will be the funnest shoot I have all year”. Now why would I make such a bold statement this early on? Well because I found an appropriate reason to shoot at my local race track Sonoma Raceway that I visit almost on a weekly basis for the Sonoma Drift program.

Cars and shoes; two hobbies that you have to balance if you want to make headway in either. You’ll find in other sections of my blog that I’m an auto enthusiast and have intentions of building my 69’ 510 and my 67’ Camaro…ok ok…back to the shoes.

The 998CFX otherwise known as the ‘Grand Tourer’ was Concepts’ last release of 2015 and was meant to pay homage to prestigious auto races. Whether you’re in auto racing, car shows, or just a spectator of motorsports there is a strong chance that you have seen carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a very light and very strong material mainly used for aerodynamic components of a race car. The carbon fiber detailing found on the heel cap is not real (however I wish it was), yet is still close enough to make the connection.

Cars have been a part of my life since I was about 5 years old, and I’ve lived 20-30min from Sonoma Raceway for the entirety of my life; so for me to able to tie my car passion to shoes was special.
