RED WING IRON RANGER (DAY 1)

I mentioned in another post that 2020 was the year of change, and I wasn’t exaggerating. Red Wing has been my chosen work boot for the past 10 years, and finally after 10 years I purchased my 1st heritage boot; the Iron Ranger.

Prior to this purchase I did research on best color choice, fit, break-in period etc. Let’s start with the color, this is the 8085 colorway aka Copper. I chose this color over the other 5 because of pictures I saw from a 4 year old pair. The aged version of this bright leather gets toned down quite a bit and that’s my end goal.

The fit was as described from what I read online; it was suggested to go .5 down from your TTS (true to size), so rather than going with my normal US11, I went with a US10.5 and it’s a perfect fit. Now…if you wear boots then you know they need to be broken in. These are no exception and if anything you’d need to break them in more because there is no insole…yes NO INSOLE. You’re standing on a piece of leather that’ll mold to your foot over time and in the end be perfect for you. Today I wore them straight out of the box for about 4hrs.

I can’t give you accurate numbers on break-in period as of yet since it’s Day 1, but I’ll be documenting these probably every 3-6 months so you can witness the color change and I can share with you how they’re adapting to my feet.

So what made me make the jump to these is that my fiancé and I were recently approached by a photographer and makeup artist for an elopement session, and a boot of this style was requested by them. My fiancé has been wanting me to get boots so now was the perfect time. I can’t wait to share with you how these beauties age!
