DIY EXPERIMENT W/ YERBA MATE LOOSE LEAF

Through the years I’ve been drinking Guayakí, I never thought to dabble into their loose leaf, but this past weekend my fiancé and I spotted some at the grocery store so we grabbed it. This would be the first time brewing our own and adding additional flavor. This is how it went!

The following day we chose to follow in the footsteps of Kenna Allison, another fellow Guayaki Collaborator to help spice up our mix, but first thing was first…we brewed 6 tsp per mason jar of the ‘Traditional’ Yerba Mate loose leaf.

We then filled our muddling bowl with fresh blackberries and muddled them until they were like of a thick paste. I added two small spoon fulls into the large mason jars that only contained fresh brewed Guayaki Yerba Mate ‘Traditional’ loose leaf.

Then to add some sweetness to the mix, we added 1 tsp of fresh honey to each jar. Once the add-in’s (blackberries and honey) were in, we let the jars chill overnight in the fridge.

The result was pleasant to say the least. The beverage had a slight hint of berry that I thought would be more impactful, but all in all I’d definitely make this same mixture again. I plan on modifying this recipe quite a few more times until I get it just right. Maybe add some mint? lemon? to bring out a more predominant taste. Until my next recipe; I urge you to go purchase some loose leaf for yourself and begin trying new mixtures so that you can share them with me!
